At Paragon ISC – secondary campus, International Literacy Day (8 September) is a special day set out by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). At Paragon ISC we recognise that literacy is a matter of dignity and human rights, and we celebrate Literacy Week as part of our focus on Internationalism.
Through the week, every English teacher offered special literacy events – free reading time, movies with a Literacy theme, book exchanges and poster competitions, and in-class spelling competitions leading up to the whole-school Spelling Bee. To ensure a good variety of words, every English teacher contributed 20 average words, 15 challenging words, and 10 difficult words to the competition.
Students in every class competed to be among the best spellers, who then entered either the Junior or Senior elimination heats to determine the Top-30 Juniors and the Top-10 Seniors. These finalists went head-to-head in the Grand Final in front of hundreds of students and teachers. The 10A band played during intermission as the audience shrieked for their favourite boy-band. Congratulations to the Silver Medal winners Molnika Leang (Junior) and Monysovann Ly (Senior), and the Gold Medal winners Darawath Dina (Junior) and Tepnorrak Long (Senior).
